Sustainability programme

Our approach to sustainability

Sustainability is closely linked to our core mission and strategy. Sustainable development is a major focus in our new strategy. People, procurement, sustainability, safety and competitiveness form the basis of our sustainability work. The implementation of the strategy is guided by long-term strategic objectives, which also include sustainability-related targets.

Our starting point is to solve societal challenges responsibly and competitively. Through our responsible work, we ensure the functioning of society’s service chains while taking care of the health and safety of our customers. We influence a wide range of populations of different ages and conditions in North Savo and create sustainable value through the solutions we provide in our daily work. We take a holistic approach to sustainability and consider the impact of our actions on the environment, people, economy and administration.

Sustainability programme 2025-2030

We are the most reliable service partner for a sustainable everyday life – our sustainability programme implements Servica’s strategy, where sustainability is one of the key enablers of success. The sustainability programme has been created in collaboration with our internal and external partners. We have considered our most significant impacts on the environment and people, as well as key risks and opportunities for economic value creation.

The main themes of the sustainability programme are climate and environment, people, responsible services, and good governance. Our responsibility work focuses on themes where Servica can have the most significant impact through its operations. Our responsibility program has four main themes for the years 2025-2030:

Climate and environment: Carbon neutral Servica 2035

Servica has decided to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035 by reducing emissions through the means outlined in the climate roadmap and offsetting the remaining locked emissions with verified emission reduction units. We also actively guide our customers towards low-emission operations and support them in setting emission targets.

We use resources efficiently and increase solutions based on the circular economy. Our goal is to incorporate lifecycle thinking and circular economy methods into our daily work in all our services.

Servica aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035. The climate roadmap published in 2024 summarizes the focus areas and measures of climate work to achieve this goal.

Over 99% of Servica’s emissions consist of purchased heat (Scope 2) and the company’s value chain emissions (Scope 3). Therefore, the measures in the climate roadmap should focus particularly on value chain emissions and allocate resources mainly to the largest Scope 3 emission sources: purchased meat and dairy products (15.4% of total emissions) and hospital supplies (10.7% of total emissions). Smaller emission reductions can be achieved by renewing the vehicle fleet, improving energy efficiency, and making sustainable procurements.

People: Meaningful work together

We promote a work life that creates well-being, strengthens work ability, and creates conditions for sustainable careers. We create and maintain a positive and attractive employee experience that strengthens employee commitment and ensures equal and comprehensive training opportunities for all our employees.

Our work is healthy and safe. We continuously improve occupational safety and well-being by responding to observations and increasing safety awareness. We develop a work culture that supports work ability and our early support measures.

Our organizational culture promotes diversity, equality, and inclusion. We regularly monitor how diverse and respectful our work community is perceived. Our goal is to be the most equal and inclusive workplace in the region.

Responsible services: Everyday services that promote sustainable development

We develop impactful services and operating models together with our partners that promote social and ecological well-being. Our goal is to incorporate responsibility criteria into service design by 2030 and create new service solutions that support sustainable development. Our long-term goal is to increase the share of sustainable service solutions in our revenue.

We support our customers’ responsibility work through communication, data, and sustainable service solutions. We collaborate and agree on common sustainability goals with our main owners.

Good governance: Responsible and reliable partner

We ensure ethical and transparent operating principles throughout the organization and promote responsible practices together with our suppliers across the value chain. Our goal is for all our suppliers to have signed our responsibility requirements by 2030. We consider responsibility in our procurements and continue to develop our operating models and responsibility criteria to promote the sustainability of our procurements.

Our goal is to incorporate responsibility into all our operations. We promote participation in responsibility work and develop responsibility expertise. We monitor the commitment of both our staff and customers to our responsibility work through our responsibility image index.

Sustainability programme goals and metrics

Each focus area of the sustainability programme has several concrete goals that advance our operations towards a more sustainable future. The goals extend until 2030. In addition to the common sustainability program, Servica’s different services have their own focus areas in sustainability work according to the nature of each service.

We evaluate the results using key metrics and operational indicators set for the main themes, which are monitored and reported regularly at the company level both internally and externally.
